Do my character and Pals carry across platforms?

Crossplay lets different platforms play together on one server — but 'playing together' and 'moving your character between platforms' are two different things. Here's what to know before you switch devices.

Crossplay ≠ cross-progression

Being able to join the same server from Steam, Xbox, PS5 or Mac is crossplay — and that works. Cross-progression— taking your character and Pals from one platform to another — is a separate question, and it's where people get caught out.

Not officially confirmed:The details below are widely reported by players and press but we could not confirm them in the official Palworld documentation. Treat this as a strong heads-up to check carefully before switching — not as an official guarantee.

What players commonly report

  • Characters are generally tied to the platform you created them on.
  • Switching to a different platform tends to start a fresh character, leaving the original where it was — they don't automatically merge.
  • There is no official merge or transfer tool that players have found to combine progress across platforms.
  • An exception people mention: the same account across Game Pass / Microsoft Store PC and Xboxcan share progress, since it's one ecosystem.

Before you switch platforms — check first

Because none of the above is officially documented and save behaviour can change between updates, don't assume your progress will follow you. Verify with the official channels or test carefully before committing to a switch — especially if your character has a lot of hours in it.

If your goal was just to play with friends on other platforms, you don't need to switch at all — that's what crossplay on a shared server is for.
